Great! I’m a Trustee/Treasurer – now what?
NEW for this autumn! The Association is running a series of training sessions for Trustees and Treasurers from our Association churches. The training is for anyone in these roles – whether you’re newly appointed or been in post for years.
We hope that as many people as possible in these roles from your church will come to learn best practice together and discuss how what is learnt can be applied in your church situation.
The training will be led by Malcolm Broad MBE, treasurer at Bristol Baptist College and Keynsham Baptist Church and director of the Baptist Insurance Company plc.
Malcolm is also a former treasurer of the Baptist Union of Great Britain and former chair of the Employers Pension Group.
Each Saturday training event will offer training for Trustees in the morning (10.00-12.30) and training for Treasurers in the afternoon (1.30-4.00).
‘I’m a Trustee – what do I need to know?’
The following topics for Trustees will be covered
- understanding the role
- essentials - what you need to know
- understanding ‘must’ and ’should'
- the Charity Code - what is it?
- ten commandments for chairs
- what is governance and what it is not
- reward or ‘get me out of here’
- opportunity to ask questions
‘Life after Covid for Church Treasurers’
The following topics for Treasurers will be covered
- advice on managing financial difficulties
- managing 'going concern'
- advice on preparing an annual report
- latest information on preparing church accounts
- risk management and insurance
- opportunity to include your own concerns
The cost per session (morning or afternoon) is £20 which includes refreshments during morning and afternoon breaks. If you are attending both sessions, please bring a packed lunch. Please book early as places are limited.
