Five Ways to Wellbeing


The 5 Ways to Wellbeing are based on evidence by the New Economics Foundation in 2008. The 5 Ways to Wellbeing are used widely especially within the NHS and education sectors. Each of these videos take the 5 ways to wellbeing and explores what the bible has to say and then leaves you with some practical challenges to try out within your families, children’s and youth groups or even as a whole church family.

About the series creator: Hannah Dengate is the Wellbeing Lead at a Christian Charity called Phase based in Hitchin having previously been a youth worker in a Baptist Church for four years. Holding both an MA in Applied Theology and a BSc in Psychology in Education, Hannah is passionate about helping young people flourish and thrive.  Introduction

Mental Health is much spoken of these days, but did you know that much of the advice about mental wellbeing is founded on biblical principles? Hannah Dengate (Wellbeing Lead at Phase) introduces this series which seeks to join the dots between the Five Ways to Wellbeing and their biblical foundations in this series of short films. Each film takes each of the 'Five Ways to Wellbeing' in turn and offers helpful practical advice so you can put these simple but life-changing principles into practice.

This series is for anyone who wants to learn more about mental wellbeing; young people and parents, church small groups and youth groups, or can even be used as a sermon series.  CONNECT

In this video we look at why connecting with others is so important and a foundational to our wellbeing. We look at what the Bible has to say with the fundamental truth that God is a relational God who himself in very nature loves connection. The video leaves you with three practical challenges to help you consider about how you may connect with those around you.

 BE ACTIVE

In this video we look at how being active can have a positive impact upon our wellbeing and think about why it is important to look after our bodies that God has given us. There are some practical challenges to try out.

 TAKE NOTICE

In this video we look at why taking notice is important for our wellbeing. We focus in on 4 different areas including taking notice of our emotions, what is and isn’t in our control, the things that we can be thankful for and lastly when we need to take time to rest. The video leaves you with challenges to think about how you could put some of these into practice.

 KEEP LEARNING

In this video we look at how keep learning can help our wellbeing and why it is important to keep learning especially as disciples of Jesus. We will think about how as a church community we can encourage one another to keep learning whatever age we are.

 GIVE

In this video we look at the importance of giving and showing kindness to others, considering practical ways in which this can be done including the 5 love languages by Gary Chapman. We will also look at one of the greatest commandments given to us in the Bible ‘To love your neighbour as yourself’. This video encourages you to think how you may be able to give generously to others using the gifts and skills that God has given you.
