Resources to download free-of-charge for use in Christmas services
Putting together Christmas services is exhausting! From time to time it may be helpful to draw on the gifts of others to help manage the energy levels of Ministers, musicians and other service organisers. All the contributors of the video resources below have generously made them available for use in worship in other churches and/or to share through your social media channels. We have a huge amount of talent amongst our SWBA family and we are extremely grateful that so many are happy to share their gifts with others - thank you! We pray that these resources will be a blessing to you and those in your church communities...
There is no charge for any of the resources below - we want you to be blessed by this! If you do wish to make a donation to support the work of the South West Baptist Association (maybe similar to a 'Preaching Fee'), you can do so by clicking here.
How to use this resource page...
The various elements that you may include in a Christmas service are listed in categories below. Under each one is a list of available resources. Clicking on an individual resource will open a new tab in your browser and take you to a separate page where you can view that particular resource and, if you wish, download it directly to your computer. To download, click the 'Download' button below the video and follow the instructions.
NB - unless otherwise stated, all resources except the worship songs are provided copyright-free. Please see the note below about the licences required to use copyrighted material.
- A Christmas Carol Story (Rev. Carl Smethurst)
How many references to Christmas Carols can you count in this re-telling of the Christmas story?
- The Gift (Rev. Carl Smethurst)
Carl shares a Christmas message of HOPE that is found in the shape of a Gift which could change your life forever...
- Blue Christmas (Rev. Mike Sherburn)
A service for anyone who finds Christmas tough, presented by Rev. Mike Sherburn (Minister of Watchet Baptist Church); uses copyrighted music - please make sure you have the necessary licenses required to broadcast.
Christmas Spoken Word Poems
- The Magnificat (Rachael Warnock)
Inspired by the story of Mary's visit to Elizabeth and her song of praise in Luke 1: 39-56, this beautiful piece written and performed by Rachael (Pastoral Assistant at Devonport Community Baptist Church and Minister-in-Training at Bristol Baptist College), encourages us to acknowledge the magnitude of the world-changing event that is Jesus' birth, and challenges us to join in with his mission bringing peace, justice and mercy to those in our world today.
- Alt Nativity (Lucy & Mike Sherburn)
Written by Lucy Sherburn (from Watchet Baptist Church) and performed by her Dad, Mike (WBC's Minister), this is a wonderful, contemporary interpretation of Mary & Joseph's search to find a safe place for Jesus to be born.
- The Stable (Carl Smethurst)
This piece is a humorous take on a serious issue; the lack of stability that so many in our communities increasingly feel in our rapidly changing world with an uncertain future. This film might be especially valuable to use in Carols by Candlelight services (or the like) to help those who don't often come to church recognise that stability, even in the midst of life's uncertainties, can be a reality for those who choose to follow Jesus.
NB The leaders of this sung worship have kindly given their permission for these songs to be used to enable worship in other churches. However, please note that if you intend to download any of these songs to add to a service which you are then intending to upload to the internet or livestream, you will need the correct licences. A standard Church Copyright Licence does not include a licence for copyrighted content to be used in streaming or webcasting church services. CCLI (Christian Copyright Licensing International) now provide a streaming licence which churches can purchase from this page - uk.ccli.com/copyright-licences/#church-licences
"The CCLI® Streaming Licence provides a solution for churches wishing to stream or webcast their services, including the live worship, via websites such as YouTube and Facebook Live that are otherwise only intended for personal use. The Streaming Licence includes the right to show lyrics as part of the stream, to enable viewers to sing along. If you are hosting the stream on your own church website you will also require a Limited Online Music Licence (LOML) directly from PRS for Music. The CCLI Streaming Licence is available to CCLI Church Copyright Licence holders."
Churches using Zoom to stream services need both the CCLI Streaming Licence and the PRS for Music LOML - prsformusic.com/licences/using-music-online/limited-online-music-licence . This is because Zoom doesn’t currently have an agreement with PRS for Music as YouTube and Facebook do.
